The Responsible Gambling Week campaign is an annual event, which promotes and supports responsible and safe gambling. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about the risks and dangers of gambling. In 2019, the event took place during November 7th and 13th and an increased number of betting companies and football clubs participated. Over 120,000 staff of online and offline gambling organizations participated and clubs from the English Football League and the Premier League.

READING FOOTBALL CLUB AND CASUMOCARE ACTIVELY SHOW SUPPORT
Reading Football Club also supported the Responsible Gambling Week campaign. They’re promoting the campaign through the #RGWeek19, across social media platforms, and on the LED boards during the home game. Their partner’s logo, Casumo will change to CasumoCares logo on their team shirts during the game with Birmingham City.
The football club arranges a yearly shirt auction in support of the Royal British Legion. All the proceeds from the auction go to helping the personnel of the Legion and their families. Casumo, through its charity GamCare has committed to match the donation to promote responsible gambling.
THE CAMPAIGN’S IMPORTANCE
The UK Gambling Commission reports that about 340,000 people in Great Britain are addicted to gambling. About 550,000 people suffer harm from the addiction. And the GambleAware charity published that in 2006 about 5% of chronic gamblers attempted suicide. The figures show the extension of the addiction’s danger to vulnerable people in the UK.
The Industry Group for Responsible Gambling is leading the gambling awareness campaign. The group comprises all the UK gambling associations and the Irish Bookmakers Association. The aim is to start a national conversation about responsible and safe gambling and to highlight the procedures and instruments available to promote responsibility. The 5 fundamental keys of the Responsible Gambling Week campaign include spending as much as gamblers can afford, setting limits for money and time, gambling doesn’t solve problems, avoiding gambling when you’re upset, and not letting it interfere with your personal life.
The Responsible Gambling Week campaign focuses on increasing awareness and encourages responsible gambling to prevent the development of addiction. The massive support from football clubs and reputable gambling sites shows that even those who have the closest connections to gambling are eager to help.
